RE-FRESH was excited to be honoured in the recent global Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education Awards, presented via virtual ceremony.
Dr Shaan Naughton, Jasmine Chan and Professor Gary Sacks from our team were co-authors on the paper “Development of the University Food Environment Assessment (Uni-Food) Tool and Process to Benchmark the Healthiness, Equity, and Environmental Sustainability of University Food Environments” which won the award for best ‘Published Journal Article Related to Planning & Administration’ in the Campus Sustainability Research Award category.
The paper reported on a study which developed and tested a tool and process to benchmark the healthiness, equity and environmental sustainability of food environments in tertiary education settings. The resulting tool – the University Food Environment Assessment (Uni-Food) – includes 68 indicators related to university systems and governance, campus facilities and environments, and food retail outlets.
The award was one of 12 presented by The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education to provide global recognition to the individuals and organisations leading the higher education sustainability movement.
With the help of volunteer judges from the community, the awards program raises the visibility of high-impact sustainability projects and collaborations, pioneering research, and student leadership, helping to disseminate innovations and inspire continued progress toward environmental, social, and economic health.
The recent winners are from Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Fiji, Kenya, Switzerland, United States, and Wales.
