The Inside our Food Companies project, conducted as part of RE-FRESH, is a series of reports that present the findings of monitoring and benchmarking studies of food companies in Australia. The first Inside our Supermarkets report detailed the policies and commitments related to obesity prevention and nutrition of Australia’s largest supermarket retailers, while the 2020 ‘Inside our Supermarkets’ report details the findings of an audit of over 100 supermarkets to investigate the healthiness of their in-store environments.
Many of the methods used to assess retailer policies and practices in RE-FRESH are based on protocols developed for the International Network for Food and Obesity / Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) Research, Monitoring and Action Support or INFORMAS, a global network of public-interest organisations and researchers that aims to monitor, benchmark and support public and private sector actions to increase healthy food environments and reduce obesity and NCDs and their related inequalities.
