In this lunchtime webinar, hear the headline results of a new report that rates Australia’s largest quick service restaurants on their nutrition policies and practices. This study is a much-anticipated update from the release of the first evaluation results in 2018.
The reports lead authors, RE-FRESH: Next Generation Chief Investigator, Professor Gary Sacks and Associate Research Fellow Jasmine Chan will share:
- How quick service restaurants in Australia scored (out of 100), including changes since 2018 and comparisons to current global best-practice;
- Key areas where quick service restaurants need to take stronger action, including corporate strategy, marketing to children, and ensuring healthier options are affordable and accessible;
- Broader recommendations to drive sector-wide improvements towards supporting better health for Australians.
Following the headline results, three snapshot presentations will offer further insight and future actions needed for healthier food environments in Australia:
- Dr Cindy Needham will present on access to fast food outlets in Australian neighbourhoods;
- Dr Adyya Gupta will discuss how online food environments are shaping our health;
- Dr Kate Sievert will explore considerations of the fast-food sector beyond health, including environmental sustainability and animal welfare.
The webinar will finish with a Q&A – providing attendees with the opportunity to engage with the speakers.
This event has been designed for those working to increase the healthiness of retail food environments, such as policy makers, health promotion practitioners, nutritionists, representatives from the food industry, researchers working in nutrition-related population health, and anyone interested in the changes to systems and structures required to improve the health of all Australians.
