In this lunchtime webinar, hear the headline results of a new report that rates Australia’s largest packaged food and beverage manufacturers on their nutrition policies and practices. This study is a much-anticipated update from the release of the first evaluation results in 2018.

The reports lead author, RE-FRESH: Next Generation Chief Investigator, Professor Gary Sacks will share:

  • An overview of the performance of Australian food and beverage manufacturers, including changes since 2018 and a comparison to current global best-practice;
  • Recommendations for improvement for manufacturers, in areas related to corporate strategy, product formulation, nutrition labelling and promotion practices;
  • Wider recommendations for sector-wide improvements that would see manufacturers better contribute to improving population health.

Following this, RE-FRESH: Next Generation Chief Investigator, Professor Kathryn Backholer will provide insights into the future actions required to improve the healthiness of Australian food environments. Drawing on her expertise in food policy and food marketing, her presentation will focus on the potential for using regulatory strategies to create a healthier food supply in Australian and international contexts.

The webinar will finish with a Q&A – providing attendees with the opportunity to ask Professor Sacks and Professor Backholer questions.

The webinar will be hosted by the Director of the RE-FRESH: Next Generation, Professor Adrian Cameron.

This event has been designed for those working to increase the healthiness of retail food environments, such as policy makers, health promotion practitioners, nutritionists, representatives from the food industry, researchers working in nutrition-related population health, and anyone interested in the changes to systems and structures required to improve the health of all Australians.
